Coffee made by women
Madre Tierra is a 50/50 blend of two coffees grown entirely by women.
The first comes from Huellas de Encanto, a cooperative of 30 women producers in Nariño, Colombia, organized through Asociación Ecoterra. Each woman farms her own small plot, just a few acres, and they pool their harvest to access the international specialty coffee market together.
The second comes from a women's cooperative in Takengon Ratu, Sumatra. Wet-hulled in the traditional Acehnese style, by women who have been growing coffee in those highlands for generations.
What it tastes like
Both coffees have chocolate as a backbone. The Colombia adds creamy body and a quiet pineapple sweetness. The Sumatra adds brown sugar depth and a soft orange-zest brightness at the finish.
Together: chocolate-forward, sweet, with a subtle citrus lift. Not bright. Not dark. Grounded. Warm.
Why this blend exists
Madre Tierra is the Spanish for Mother Earth. It's named for the women who grow this coffee, and for the women in our own community who need support.
5% of every Madre Tierra bag goes to WIN House, an Edmonton women's shelter.
Coffee is one of the world's most labour-intensive crops. Women do an enormous share of that work. Picking. Sorting. Processing. Often without owning the land or earning the premium their work creates.
This blend is one small way to support women in the supply chain that brings coffee to your cup, and women in the city this coffee gets roasted in.
